Annapoorani Revisited

For many years the Annapoorani restaurant has been satisfying the taste buds of South Indian food aficionados in Bangalore. The pure-veg restaurant is popular for its simple yet tasteful choice of South Indian delicacies. From its long time abode at Cambridge Layout, Annapoorani has now moved to a new location – 12th Main, Indiranagar (above Chicco).

Ambience

The new location definitely has few noticeable improvements. It is more airy and spacious. With floor to ceiling windows, the natural light during lunch hours is a welcome change. But the bare vitrified flooring and the old furniture somewhat neutralize the positives. As you enter Annapoorani, the first impression is that of entering a newly constructed apartment.

Food and Service

Annapoorani always enjoyed a loyal fan following due to its Thanjavur styled meals. And even in the new location, the food continues to impress. The weekday lunch now costs Rs. 90 and additional chappathis after two are charged extra. But the quality of every dish is absolutely worth the money. A meal now has one dry curry, one kootu and chutney. This is served along with regulars like rasam, sambaar, pappad, sweet and yogurt. The quality of each dish stands out in appearance and importantly in taste. Annapoorani continues to maintain high standards by using good quality ingredients, something evident in every dish. As with any South Indian meal service restaurant, the service at Annapoorani is brisk and professional.

The South India food at Annapoorani has always been a refreshing change from the boring office cafeteria, the heavy team lunches and the nondescript food courts. I visited Annapoorani at it’s new location after a very long time but I can easily see more visits coming soon.
